From fake psychic to artist: The mystic transformation of Jose Alvarez

Among the four gifted artists featured in the Norton Museum of Art’s new “Altered States” exhibit, there is only one who started out on an entirely different career path. How different? Extremely different. Jose Alvarez of Fort Lauderdale was a fake psychic. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that he was a [...]

Husky buries head in pillows, likes to hide

Question: My 8-year-old Siberian husky, Cheyenne, does something odd to me. When in bed with me, she buries her head under my pillows and blankets like she is hiding. She also gets very upset when I move the pillows off her head. A few times, I’ve woken up with her head nuzzled under mine, what is this all about? - Janell

Answer: Cheyenne is most likely hiding, however she could be more comfortable under the covers, trying to get warm or simply trying to get close to you. Dogs are social creatures and can certainly seek out that type of close contact interaction. I see that most commonly in dogs who are hyperattached to the owner. These dogs may also have separation anxiety or follow the owner around the house.

If she does this in response to a certain stimuli or during the day, I would be more worried and would want to work directly on those stimuli. If she is not overtly fearful, there is nothing wrong with sleeping with your dog, regardless of whether or not she is under the covers. I would continue to let her burrow under the pillows and let her come out when she wants to do so.

Older, more-opinionated Tom Green brings his act to the Improv

Event Listing: Directions, invite friends, more Since his ’90s heyday, Tom Green’s been described a lot of different ways: Odd. Unique. Unconventional. Innovative. Prone to making people weirdly uncomfortable for laughs. Just about the only thing he’s never been called is “traditional.” Honestly, the jury’s still out on just how traditional the surrealist Canadian talk [...]
